Lil Poppa will be laid to rest this weekend in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, and his sister has shared important details about the service.
The rapper’s family is preparing to say their final goodbyes, and they’re welcoming anyone who wishes to attend the funeral. Earlier this week, Lil Poppa’s sister, Orieon Wheeler, posted key information about the service on social media, according to XXL. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, at Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
Orieon also noted that the service will have tight security in place. Security personnel will be present, and recording devices—including phones, Meta glasses, and similar items—will not be allowed inside. Handbags and purses will also be prohibited.
The service is set to begin at 10 a.m. ET.
While the service will be open to the public, not everyone will be able to attend in person. Fortunately, Orieon also revealed that fans, family members, and others can watch from anywhere through a YouTube livestream. Those who wish to pay their respects virtually can tune in on Lil Poppa’s official page.
Lil Poppa’s death is expected to leave a lasting impact, not only because of his talent but also because the loss is still so recent.
The “Purple Hearts” rapper tragically took his own life on February 18 in Georgia after being involved in a single-car accident. Following the crash, Hapeville Chief of Police Bruce Hedley reported that Poppa called his manager asking what he should do next.
He was encouraged to drive to a nearby Hilton parking lot, where his manager attempted to speak with him. However, Poppa did not roll down his window. Instead, he reportedly pulled out a firearm and shot himself in the head.
The heartbreaking situation has been difficult for everyone who loved and admired him, including the mother of their three-year-old son, Toie Roberts.
Roberts later shared an emotional tribute on Instagram. “Nothing could EVER describe the pain, the thoughts, the constant heartbreak of it all. Our reality changing before my eyes. I’ve been wondering how could you be so in a rush to leave us so suddenly & torturing.”
She continued, “Janarious, [I] got J’nar. You go on & get your rest. [I] hope you found the peace you’ve been looking for. We’ll be fine. [Thank] you FOR EVERYTHING, from the bottom of my heart. [Blue heart emoji] We love you so much & we’re going to miss you endlessly in this lifetime! [teary-eyed emoji and wing emoji].”
