Gwen Stefani says a spiritual “awakening” played a role in helping her conceive her youngest son, Apollo.
During a conversation on Hallow, a Catholic prayer and meditation app, Stefani spoke with Jeff Cavins—an Evangelist who later returned to Catholicism—about her faith and upbringing. The 56-year-old singer reflected on growing up in an Italian Catholic household, recalling catechism classes and saying grace “every night.”
“I [it] wasn’t the way I feel like I am now where I have all this like knowledge, you know what I mean?” Stefani explained, adding that she considers herself a “baby Christian” because she is “certainly a work in progress.”

“I think as a child it was such a grounding thing and I think my mom was the one that [really] I think planted the seed of faith in me and she knew I needed that and I was going to need it and she was right,” Stefani said while reflecting on her beliefs.
“Well, so for many years then you you might not bring God in an interview or or talk to people about him, but in the last few years this is coming up more and more,” Cavins, 68, said. “And typically what happens that I found out is that somebody experiences some kind of conversion, you know, some kind of event or something happened in their life where they started searching in a kind of an amplified new new way. Have you experienced anything that has brought this on in your life?”
Stefani replied, “For sure.”
“I started working with this this guy and he was [really like] an atheist Jew, right, that converted after being atheist growing up in Israel. And he was studying the Torah and he had this big epiphany awakening and he starts talking to me about the Torah. And I was desperate at this point too, during all this. I really wanted to have another baby,” Stefani shared.
“I really did. And I couldn’t and I was old. And we start talking about all these things and like I know all of this stuff like this is just I don’t know. It was waking me up, right?” she continued.
“The Torah,” Cavins responded.
“The Torah was, yeah,” Stefani confirmed.
She also recalled a touching moment with her oldest son, Kingston, 19, who once told her, “Mommy, I just I really want you to have a baby.”
“I said ‘I’m sorry, your mommy’s too old to have a baby now,’ you know,” Stefani recalled telling Kingston. She explained that her son then began praying for her to have another baby “on his own.”
“He was like ‘Please God let my mom have a baby,’ and I just was just sitting there going wow, look at my little boy he’s praying for me like he was doing it every night and I never asked him to do that never taught him that really,” Stefani shared. “I think it was like four weeks later and I was pregnant with Apollo who you know, I had at 44 years old naturally. Totally a full-on gift. And that was the first miracle,” she added.
“You can run from God or you can run to God, you know, in that situation. It sounds like you ran to God,” Cavins responded.
Stefani shares her three sons—Kingston, Zuma, 17, and Apollo, 12—with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.
