With Drake’s “ICEMAN” expected to drop any moment now, the latest conversation from Rory & Mal has fans once again bringing Future into the discussion, despite the tension between the two artists.
The massive rap battle of 2024 still seems to linger, and Drake appears to be one of the artists still feeling the heat. As anticipation builds for his upcoming album ICEMAN, some fans are now speculating that Future — one of his rivals from that chaotic year — might actually show up on the project. Those rumors only grew louder after a recent episode of the New Rory & Mal podcast.
As spotted by joebuddenclips/fanpage on Twitter, Rory asked Mal whether there was any truth to the speculation based on what he had heard. “He might be,” Mal responded. “The information I have on the album: ideas are being created, have been created. I know ideas continue to be created, ideas have been pivoted from. It’s just a fact: ideas are being created. The album is being fleshed out, it’s still a process. That’s all. I don’t know about [them squashing their beef]. I don’t think it’s far-fetched that they may work together again. Music is exponentially better when those guys are cool.” Rory quickly agreed.
Whether it actually happens remains to be seen — fans will just have to wait and see.
Of course, what makes this possible collaboration so interesting is the past tension between Future and Drake. After all, it was Future’s “Like That” with Metro Boomin that featured Kendrick Lamar — and Lamar’s verse helped ignite the explosive 2024 hip-hop feud.
Still, there have been whispers that the What A Time To Be Alive collaborators may have quietly settled their issues behind the scenes. Drake even suggested on “Family Matters” that they never truly had a direct problem with each other, instead blaming the conflict on people in their circles, including Metro.
For now, though, all the talk about Drake and Future remains unconfirmed at press time, no matter which version of the rumor you believe. While things don’t appear extremely hostile between them, it’s also far from a completely smooth situation.
That’s why a Future appearance on ICEMAN could end up being the clearest sign yet that the two have moved past their differences. Future also appeared to throw subtle lyrical jabs at the 6ix God on the WE DON’T TRUST YOU project with Metro, suggesting the tension went beyond just affiliations.
So the question remains: are Rory and Mal onto something, or will fans have to keep waiting for that reunion?
