Keke Palmer unexpectedly became the center of attention during a SXSW panel this week when a stranger suddenly proposed to her.
On Friday (March 13), TMZ shared footage showing a man dropping to one knee in front of the stage while Palmer, Demi Moore, Naomi Ackie, and Eiza Gonzalez were discussing their upcoming film, I Love Boosters.
According to the outlet, the man had been seated in the front row before walking up to the stage and pulling out a small box that appeared to hold a ring. Palmer looked visibly confused by the moment, and her co-stars seemed just as surprised.
“I can’t marry you, I don’t know you, I’m so sorry,” Palmer told the man, drawing laughter from the crowd. “I’m so sorry, sir. No, it’s okay. Is this a prank?” she added.
“It’s okay. Oh, that’s very sweet,” she continued, as security stepped in and escorted the man out of the venue. “Good luck to you, brother.”
“Alright, alright. So let’s get back to this,” Keke said before later joking, “That was crazy.”
It’s possible the 32-year-old’s mystery suitor had recently heard her thoughts on marriage and fully agreed with them. Last month, Palmer appeared on The Today Show, where she spoke openly about her perspective on dating and relationships.
“One thing I need you to know is I never want to live together,” she said. “I like my alone time.”
“I just feel like Whoopi Goldberg said it best once. She was like, ‘I don’t want nobody in my house.’ And I feel that. I’m serious — married, even.”
Palmer added: “You can be in the guest house, we can be on the same land, but I’m over there, and he’s over there. At best, separate rooms.”
