Cardi B gave Minneapolis its flowers for standing up to ICE.
During her Thursday concert at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Bronx rapper hovered above the crowd on a swing while taking a moment to praise the audience.
“Minneapolis, you are such a strong city. I’ve been seeing what’s going on in the news, and we wanna say thank you for your for your resilience, for your resistance,” she told the sold-out venue.
“I don’t know why those motherfuckers came to this state. Y’all n***as is not pussy. I don’t know why they came over here. They must not know how y’all give it up.”
Cardi B has been vocal about criticizing ICE’s immigration enforcement tactics, most recently calling out the agency at the start of her Little Miss Drama Tour. On opening night in Palm Desert, she gave a shoutout to her Mexican fans and jokingly warned ICE not to try anything at her show.
“Mexicans in the building?” she asked as the crowd erupted. “Bitch, if ICE come in here we gonna jump they asses. Bitch, I got some bear mace in the back. They ain’t taking my fans, bitch.”
Homeland Security later responded to her remarks, taking a jab at her past as an exotic dancer. “As long as she doesn’t drug and rob our agents, we’ll consider that an improvement over her past behavior,” the agency tweeted.
Minneapolis has recently become a major flashpoint in the debate over ICE operations, as more agents appeared in the city carrying out deportations targeting people they considered “illegal” immigrants. Public anger grew after the fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, both 37-year-old residents, during encounters with federal immigration officers, which sparked protests across the city and nationwide.
