Rihanna’s suspected shooter, Ivanna Ortiz, allegedly sent a message referencing the singer to her estranged husband weeks before the incident.
It’s still unclear where Rihanna is following the shooting at her home, but new developments in the case continue to emerge. The suspect, Ivanna Ortiz, is now facing additional serious claims in court from her estranged husband, Jed Valdez Sangalang.
According to court documents reportedly obtained by TMZ, Sangalang submitted an email he says he received on January 26, allegedly sent by Ortiz weeks before the shooting. “I need you to renounce Rihanna and confess that I’m better than her. Let it be done. You gotta let me know so that door can be closed. Ivy,” the message allegedly read. No Jumper later shared the email on Instagram.
Sangalang said he only learned about the Sunday shooting the following day after receiving numerous calls and messages from news outlets and others. He reportedly tried to keep the incident from their underage child, but eventually had to explain what happened after the child heard about it from another student at school.
Jed Valdez Sangalang is now reportedly seeking full custody, asking the court to grant him sole decision-making authority for their child in light of the Rihanna shooting. According to TMZ, authorities had previously placed Ivanna Ortiz under psychiatric hold in Florida.
For those who may not know, Ortiz was previously charged with attempted murder and assault in connection to the incident at Rihanna’s home. Authorities allege she fired multiple shots at the singer’s Los Angeles residence. According to TMZ, Rihanna’s partner A$AP Rocky was not home at the time, though she was reportedly there with her children.
Another development in the case involves Rihanna’s suspected shooter being assigned a public defender. Deputy Public Defender Jamarcus Bradford reportedly withdrew the not guilty plea so the case could move forward toward the March 25 arraignment.
