Whoopi Goldberg Gets Candid About Her Sex Life: “I Do Hit-and-Runs When I Need It”

Whoopi Goldberg isn’t looking for a man to feel complete—but she admits she keeps her options open when she feels like it.

The actress and The View co-host got real about her love life while reacting to a recent Cosmopolitan op-ed about a woman in a relationship who misses being single.

During the Wednesday (March 18) episode of The View, the three-time divorcée shared that she considers herself single, though she’ll occasionally “bar hop” when she’s in the mood to meet someone new.

Goldberg was previously married to former drug counselor Alvin Martin from 1973 to 1979, Dutch cinematographer and filmmaker David Claessen from 1986 to 1988, and actor Lyle Trachtenberg from 1994 to 1995.

She also shares a 52-year-old daughter, Alex Martin, with her first husband.

“I do hit-and-runs when I need it, but I am not married to anybody [and] I don’t have responsibilities,” Goldberg told the roundtable.

Goldberg has previously made it clear that she doesn’t see relationships as essential and prefers living on her own terms.

“In the last 25 years, I recognized that not everybody’s cut out to be in a relationship. Some people are just cut out to be one-night stands,” she told Interview Magazine in an article published last month.

“I don’t want to live with anybody,” she added. “I have lots of people that I love, but I don’t need them living with me. I don’t need to be sleeping with them.”

Despite her stance, the actress still keeps things cordial with her ex-husbands, even referring to them as “friends” during a 2024 episode of The View.

“I don’t have to sleep with you, I don’t have to eat with you—I don’t have to do any of those things that a relationship forces,” she said at the time. “But I can be [friendly], because there’s nobody that I’ve lived with or messed with that I absolutely hate.”
