Justin Timberlake was taken into custody for a DWI in June 2024 in Sag Harbor, New York — and newly released body cam footage is now giving a closer look at the incident.
In the arrest video shared by Sag Harbor Police, the 10-time Grammy winner appears to have difficulty completing the sobriety test, repeatedly misunderstanding instructions and ultimately not passing.
“These are, like, hard tests,” the now-45-year-old says at one point in the footage.
Even though his passenger told officers that Timberlake was a member of NSYNC, the singer was still required to complete the sobriety tests, which included having a flashlight shined into his eyes and walking in a straight line. In the footage, after stumbling several times, Timberlake pauses and says: “My heart’s racing.”
He is eventually placed in handcuffs, and at that moment, a female fan approaches the scene, attempting to hand him a phone and plead with officers to let him off.
“Can you guys please just do me a favor ’cause you loved ‘Bye Bye Bye’ or ‘SexyBack?’ Do me one favor!” the woman says in the clip before she’s briefly allowed to speak with the “Suit & Tie” singer.
The arrest stayed out of public view until recently, though it still sparked memes suggesting Timberlake’s Forget Tomorrow World Tour had been “ruined.” By September, the case was resolved with a plea deal, as the singer agreed to pay a fine between $300 and $500 and complete a PSI related to driving while intoxicated.
Earlier this month, Timberlake attempted to stop the footage from being released, arguing it was “an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.”
“The harm from public exposure — stigma, harassment, reputational injury, and the permanent loss of privacy — is immediate and irreparable,” his lawyers stated in court filings.
