‘Family Matters’ Star Kellie Williams Celebrates Turning 50: “So Blessed”

Kellie Williams is celebrating a major milestone, and fans are taking notice for more than just the occasion. The Family Matters alum recently rang in her 50th birthday with a fresh photoshoot, paired with a heartfelt message reflecting on the moment and the people in her life.

“Feeling so blessed today. Thank you all for the incredible love, messages, and support on my 50th birthday. My heart is truly full,” Williams wrote on Instagram, per People.

She added, “I’m grateful for my amazing family and friends who continue to pour into me, lift me up, and walk with me through every season.”

Her birthday celebration comes as Williams has been stepping back into the spotlight, revisiting her legacy from Family Matters, the beloved sitcom that ran from 1989 to 1997. Known for her role as Laura Winslow, she’s been reflecting on that era through new appearances and podcast conversations exploring the show’s lasting cultural impact.

During a recent sit-down on the Hey Dude… The 90’s Called! podcast with co-star Telma Hopkins, Williams opened up about the long-standing dynamic between Laura Winslow and Steve Urkel, portrayed by Jaleel White.

Looking back on Jaleel White’s performance, Williams highlighted just how much effort went into the role. “People don’t understand how talented… the amount of work, the dedication, the level of detail that he did on that character was insane,” she said.

When asked if Laura and Urkel eventually tied the knot after their engagement in the series finale, Williams shared that she believes they did.

The renewed buzz also comes after a recent viral moment where Williams appeared in a social media video embracing her natural gray hair and a more relaxed, age-appropriate look.

The clip sparked widespread reactions from fans who still associate her with her teenage role on Family Matters.

Beyond acting, Williams has also been involved in creative projects like Tanya Wright’s Hairiette of Harlem series, which combines storytelling with literacy-focused tools for kids.
