Playboi Carti and Nicki Minaj are widely loved in the rap scene—and that includes I-dle, who recently opened up about their hip-hop favorites.
Chatting with Jillian Superstar, the K-pop stars, formerly known as (G)-IDLE, got candid about the American rappers they vibe with, along with some fun insights into their careers and personal lives.
At about the 13-minute point in the video, each member shared their picks: Soyeon went with Playboi Carti and Travis Scott, Minnie chose Doja Cat, Miyeon picked Cardi B, while Shuhua named Nicki Minaj.
Aside from music, the group touched on what they’ve been up to lately, including their latest single Mono, upcoming promotions, and how they’ve been building connections with fans in the U.S.
Things got even more fun when they were asked about their American celebrity crushes. Minnie mentioned Zendaya and Tom Cruise, noting that Top Gun is her favorite film from the actor. Miyeon chose Beyoncé, while Shuhua went with Ariana Grande. Soyeon surprised everyone by saying her crush is on “The Simpsons family.”
Elsewhere, Yuqi and Jillian Superstar connected over their shared love for Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries, a role famously brought to life by Ian Somerhalder.
The group’s newest single, “Mono” featuring Skaiwater, serves as their first drop since reintroducing themselves as I-dle. The track quickly grabbed global attention, especially for its message-driven lyrics: “You’re from the right, or from the left / Whether East or West, whether straight or gay /Every day and night, dance to your real vibe.”
Their lyrics [have] so many complicated things. But we just shut down all the fears about telling the truth, [talking] about … the essence from our heart. I think that’s why people love the song very much.”
She went on to explain: “After seven years, we’re rebranding ourselves as I-dle. It’s the first single we ever released [with the new name]. So I think it’s a new start because I want the audience, our fans, to [see] I-dle as a new chapter. I think ‘Mono’ did a really good job for that.”
