James Blake Requests Removal From Kanye West’s Bully Production Credits

James Blake is asking to have his name taken off the production credits for the artist formerly known as Kanye West’s Bully track, “This One Here.” After Ye released his twelfth solo album on Friday (March 27), Blake took to his direct-to-fan platform, Vault, to explain that he doesn’t view himself as a producer on the record.

According to Spotify, the track currently lists Quentin Miller and Don Toliver as composers alongside Blake and Ye.

The English artist went on to clarify that while elements like his vocal pitching and early track structure made it into the final version of “This One Here,” the “spirit” of his “actual production is mostly absent.”

“My original version is a completely different production in spirit,” Blake added. “Happy for the fans but I’ve asked to have the producer credits removed for now, as I don’t want to take credit for other people’s work and this version isn’t what I created with Ye.”

“It’s not personal!” he clarified. “I’ve just reached a point where I don’t want to be credited on music where I can’t shape the final outcome.”

Earlier this month, Blake also dropped his seventh solo album, Trying Times, where he credited his longtime girlfriend, actress Jameela Jamil, as an executive producer.

“For everyone here—without jameela this album would not be patch on what it is now, in its final form,” he wrote. “It’s impossible to overstate how much you’ve transformed these songs, and guided me to reach what I think is my potential.”

He continued, “That is what a producer and indeed what a exec producer does. Your intuition, your clarity and pattern recognition for music is the best of anyone bar none.”

Jamil described working on the project as a “privilege,” while also encouraging other men to take note of the public praise Blake gave her.

Also on Friday, Ye released the music video for “Father” featuring Travis Scott. The visual, directed by Bianca Censori, is now available to watch.
