Leslie Jones Shuts Down ‘Tradwife’ Lifestyle, Calls Marriage “Legalized Slavery”

Leslie Jones is back in the spotlight following a standout moment from her recent sit-down on Ziwe’s interview series.

During the March 31 conversation, the comedian and former Saturday Night Live star pushed back on the idea of becoming a “tradwife,” taking it a step further by arguing that modern marriage is inherently skewed against women.

When Ziwe asked if she could ever see herself embracing the increasingly popular traditional-wife lifestyle, Jones didn’t miss a beat.

“Absolutely not,” Jones said. “Because that’s not who the f*ck I am. And my daddy didn’t raise me like that.” She went on to explain that her father never wanted her identity tied to a relationship, adding, “My dad used to literally say that to me. I didn’t raise you to be somebody’s wife.”

The moment comes as the “tradwife” trend continues to gain momentum across TikTok and Instagram. The movement, which started picking up around 2020, focuses on women embracing traditional domestic roles—often portraying themselves as homemakers who cook from scratch, homeschool their kids, and submit to a husband as the sole provider.

Creators like Nara Smith and Ballerina Farm have played a big role in pushing the aesthetic forward, blending soft, curated visuals with a broader pushback against modern feminism.

Jones made it clear she’s not on board with any of it. When Ziwe asked if she could ever see herself in that lifestyle, Jones tied her response to her overall views on marriage. “Most of the people that I know that’s gotten married are divorced now,” she said. “I think marriage is legalized slavery.”

After Ziwe asked her to elaborate, Jones connected marriage to expectations that women should give up their independence. “Especially if he expecting you to be a trad wife, it’s might as well pull out a whip and a chain,” she said.

She also made it clear she doesn’t see marriage as beneficial for women. “I don’t think it’s beneficial for a woman at all,” she said, later telling younger viewers plainly, “Don’t get married.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Jones shared that her ideal partner is someone who allows her to be vulnerable while fully embracing her “authentic self.”
