Maury Povich Reacts to 50 Cent Being a Fan: “Maybe I Did Have an Impact”

Maury Povich says it took a surprising run-in with 50 Cent for him to truly grasp just how far his influence reaches.

Speaking recently with Adam Friedland for Interview, the retired talk show host reflected on a moment that shifted his perspective on his legacy after stepping away from television.

“I never realized what kind of impact I had,” Povich admitted, noting that it wasn’t until retirement that he began to see how widely his show connected with people.

“I was walking down the hall and this guy comes and gives me this big hug and he says, ‘You’re my man,’” he recalled. “And I look at him, and it’s 50 Cent.”

The encounter left him stunned, especially considering the rapper’s level of fame and global presence.

“I go, ‘Holy shit. Maybe I did have an impact,’” he added.

Povich, who spent over 30 years hosting Maury, became a defining figure in daytime TV—especially known for his viral paternity test segments that later blew up online.

In a previous chat with Angela Yee, he also revealed that athletes were some of his most loyal viewers, with entire locker rooms tuning in.

“I know a lot of NFL players watch the show,” he said. “They’re in the locker room in the morning, my show’s on … The coaches are out there trying to get them, and they won’t come up ‘til they find out who the father is.”

He even shared that Shaquille O’Neal and his crew turned it into a full-on game.

“Shaq used to tell me that he and his buddies bet on whether they were the father or not,” Povich said.
