Meagan Good Gets Candid About Accidental Skin Bleaching: “I Just Looked Crazy”

Meagan Good is opening up about a time her skin was accidentally bleached after undergoing a treatment meant to target signs of aging.

During her appearance on the Wednesday (April 1) episode of The Breakfast Club, the Think Like a Man actress shared how the experience pushed her to tune out negative comments after the unexpected change in her appearance.

At the time, Good said she initially went in for an anti-aging treatment but was advised by an esthetician to also get rid of her “dark spots.”

She remembered telling the esthetician that those spots acted like a “natural contour,” but was reassured that her “skin would be so clear.”

“I start using the product. I instantly see that I’m getting lighter and she’s like, ‘Don’t worry, just give it a few weeks. All your color will come back,’” Good said. “I give it a few weeks, and I look so pale and so crazy.”

Good went on to attend a premiere in New York, where photos made her appear “blown out” and noticeably lighter than usual.

“As a Black woman, I would never do that to myself. And it just broke my heart to think that young Black girls would think that I did that or like I don’t like myself,” she said. “I was like, ‘Why would I do that all of a sudden at 39 years old? That’s crazy.’”

She explained that the rumors about her bleaching her skin were “so humiliating,” especially since she had no way to prove what really happened at the time.

“I couldn’t do anything. I was like, ‘I look crazy,’” she added. “‘I literally have to just sit in this and accept that people are going to think that I did this to myself.’”

Looking back to 2020, Good shared on Hollywood Unlocked Uncensored that she felt completely unable to “defend” herself. In trying to fix the situation, the esthetician gave her a serum that ended up burning and discoloring her skin.

“I had open flesh all over my face. My face was completely discolored and it was just it was really traumatizing,” she said. She later confirmed that another dermatologist was able to successfully reverse the bleaching.
