Swae Lee has walked back his earlier remarks about Kamala Harris and revealed that he didn’t cast a vote in the 2024 presidential election.
During a fresh interview on The Breakfast Club, released on Friday (April 3)—the same day his debut solo album Same Difference dropped—the Rae Sremmurd star opened up about why he previously told fans not to support Harris.
“At the time I disagreed with her, but I definitely will retract that statement,” he said while speaking with co-host Charlamagne Tha God, also questioning whether people actually took his advice seriously.
Swae Lee explained that his initial comments came from things he was “just seeing” that didn’t sit right with him. “I started doing my own research and just looking at actual policies,” he said.
He went on to admit that he didn’t vote in the U.S. election Kamala Harris was part of, while also expressing regret over speaking on the matter in the first place. “Looking into it, it could have been propaganda,” he added. “Going back, I wouldn’t have even spoke on it.”
The “Unforgettable” hitmaker wrapped things up by sharing his frustration with the current political climate. “What’s going now is messed up,” he said. “That’s why I never even stood with bro either.”
Still, his remarks didn’t sit well with many fans. One X user called him “a coward ass bitch” while resurfacing an old post where he appeared to support Donald Trump.
“You better go look at the things trump did for blacks he’s actually done more than Biden and 80% of others the media portrays it one way the facts are right there to access I will make a list tomorrow if you need…I used to not pay attention but that last sleepy guy did damage,” Swae reportedly wrote at the time.
Another user reposted his The Breakfast Club interview and wrote: “So he slandered Kamala for free to his followers, didn’t bother to vote and is now unhappy with Trump. Sounds like a lot of people who were running their mouths in 2024. This is some ignorant shit.”
A third person added: “They got @SwaeLee on the radio. Charla asked why did u tweet ‘do not vote for Kamala’? He say he was googling and didn’t agree with her policies. ‘What policies?’ Couldn’t name not one. And that’s how dumb n***as be.”
In a post shared on X back in 2024, which has since been deleted, Swae Lee wrote: “Do not vote for Kamala !!! Do your research on that whole [campaign].”
