Skepta Praises Joyner Lucas for Bold Rap Battle Callout: ‘How Long You Been Waiting?’

Skepta is gearing up to drop “two bars” aimed at Joyner Lucas in an upcoming diss track directed at A$AP Rocky.

The “Cops & Robbers” rapper, fresh off his collaboration with Fred again.. and Plaqueboymax on “Victory Lap,” teased the lyrical jab as conversations heat up around a potential U.K. vs. U.S. rap clash.

Joyner Lucas recently took to X to call out Skepta, tagging him with the message, “the moment I’ve been waiting for.” The bold move added fuel to the brewing U.K. vs. U.S. rap showdown and clearly caught Skepta’s attention.

Skepta.

“Say the word,” he wrote in response to Skepta arguing “the U.K. can’t lose” in a hypothetical U.K. versus U.S. battle.

Shortly after his callout, Joyner Lucas—who’s set to drop the sequel to ADHD later this month—shared a clip from a 2024 DJ Vlad interview featuring Aries Spears. In the video, the Mad TV alum expressed his dislike for U.K. rap, saying he “can’t stand listening to n***as from London rap,” before launching into a mocking impression that stirred even more controversy.

Lucas kept the jabs coming, joking on Instagram that he wanted “whatever drugs he’s on” after seeing a video of Skepta—adding another layer of shade to their brewing transatlantic tension.

In a video posted to Instagram, Skepta addressed Joyner Lucas directly, admitting he “wasn’t even going to reply” at first, explaining, “I’m a rapper’s rapper.”

He went on to call out Lucas’ recent remarks as “just another example of the ignorance,” signaling that he wasn’t here for the disrespect. Skepta then confirmed a diss track is on the way—primarily aimed at A$AP Rocky—but made it clear Joyner’s getting a piece of it too.

“When I drop my diss track for Rocky, I’m gonna give you two bars,” he said. “I didn’t do the work I did for Joyner Lucas to be saying my name.”

On X, Skepta playfully called Joyner Lucas “a brave man” for stepping up to challenge him in the booth. He also took a shot at Aries Spears—mistakenly calling him “Aaron” in a couple of posts—while continuing to fuel the buzz around the brewing rap battle.

“How long you been waiting for this moment though?” Skepta teased, keeping the energy light but pointed.

So where does A$AP Rocky fit into all this?

Even though Skepta has a diss track aimed at Rocky in the pipeline, he’s made it clear there’s no real “beef” between them. According to Skepta, it’s all in the spirit of friendly competition.

“Rap is a sport,” he said, brushing off any notions of bad blood. The two actually share a history of working together, including on Rocky’s Testing standout “Praise the Lord (Da Shine).”
