Diddy Case: Prosecutors and Defense Set Sentencing Date

Sean “Diddy” Combs made a brief public appearance on Tuesday (June 8), just days after a largely favorable verdict in his sex trafficking and racketeering trial. The music mogul and his attorney, Mark Agnifilo, joined a short hearing via phone alongside prosecutors to lock in a sentencing date.

The hearing wrapped quickly, as both sides had already settled on a proposed schedule. Agnifilo outlined the plan in letters sent to the judge just before the hearing began—so quickly, in fact, that one of Diddy’s supporters didn’t even make it into the courtroom in time.

The proposed plan sets Diddy’s sentencing for October 3, aligning with the date originally suggested by Judge Arun Subramanian last week. A previous proposal had aimed for a September 22 sentencing, but that now appears to have been replaced. Judge Subramanian is expected to officially confirm the date soon.

At Diddy’s bond hearing on July 2—where he was ordered to stay in custody until sentencing—lead prosecutor Maureen Comey announced plans to push for the maximum sentence: 20 years.

The defense and prosecution also clashed over how the federal sentencing guidelines should apply. Diddy’s team argued for a range of 21–27 months, while prosecutors claimed it should be 51–63 months. Still, the judge has full discretion and could hand down a sentence below those ranges—even as low as time served.
