With countless big names in Hollywood, it might be hard to guess who’s actually leading the pack—but Scarlett Johansson has officially taken the crown.
At 40, Johansson has become the highest-grossing actor in Hollywood history. According to The Numbers, her films have raked in a staggering $14.8 billion across just 36 movies—beating out Samuel L. Jackson’s 71 and Robert Downey Jr.’s 45.
Her biggest box office hits? All four Avengers films, where she brought Black Widow to life. Her most recent blockbuster, Jurassic World Rebirth, gave her that final push into the top spot, earning $322.6 million worldwide in just six days, per Box Office Mojo.
Over $8.7 billion of her total comes from her roles in the Avengers series and Captain America: Civil War. She also made major box office contributions with Iron Man 2 and the Sing animated films, where she voiced the rockstar porcupine, Ash.
Trailing just behind her, Jackson now holds second place with $14.6 billion, while Downey Jr. follows closely at $14.3 billion.
This historic milestone adds to Johansson’s already incredible career. With a reported net worth of $165 million and over $20 million in real estate spread across L.A., NYC, and Amagansett, she’s built an empire beyond the screen.
Interestingly, nearly all the top-grossing stars have one thing in common: the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The only exception is Tom Hanks, who’s never appeared in a Marvel film but still ranks among the top.
Still, Johansson’s reign could be tested. Downey Jr. is set to return in Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027—projects that could launch him right back to the top. Unless, of course, Black Widow somehow makes a surprise comeback.
