A suspect has been arrested in the tragic double homicide of American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca.
LAPD Lt. Guy Golan told reporters on Tuesday, July 15, that 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian allegedly broke into the couple’s Encino home while they were away. When Kaye and Deluca returned, they reportedly caught Boodarian inside, leading to a violent struggle during which the suspect is accused of fatally shooting them both.
Authorities initially responded to a July 10 call about someone jumping the fence at the couple’s home. Officers were unable to access the property at the time due to the eight-foot-high spiked walls surrounding it. An LAPD helicopter flew over the area but saw no signs of forced entry or suspicious activity.
Police returned to the residence on Monday, July 14, after a friend requested a welfare check and provided the gate code. Inside, they discovered the couple with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Blood was found on the porch, and a shattered window appeared to be the entry point for the intruder.
The same caller who reported the fence jumper also gave authorities a license plate number. Investigators later identified Boodarian using surveillance footage from the home and forensic evidence collected at the scene.
Boodarian, who also lives in Encino, was arrested Tuesday and is currently being held without bail.
According to court documents obtained by CNN, Boodarian faced charges last year for battery, brandishing a deadly weapon, and making criminal threats—but the case was dismissed after a judge ruled he was mentally unfit to stand trial.
In a statement to CNN, American Idol shared their heartbreak over the loss: “We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Tom’s, passing. Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
