Atlanta Rapper Cash Out Convicted on Sex Trafficking and Racketeering Charges

Atlanta rapper Cash Out has been convicted on multiple serious charges in his state sex trafficking trial.

According to Atlanta News First, a Fulton County jury reached a verdict on Friday, July 18, finding the rapper—real name John Michael Gibson—guilty of racketeering, rape, pimping, aggravated sodomy, and two counts of sex trafficking.

He was acquitted on a third sex trafficking charge, along with charges of sexual servitude, aggravated assault, and operating a place of prostitution.

Cash Out’s mother, Linda Smith, was also found guilty in connection with the case. She was convicted of racketeering and one count of trafficking. Another co-defendant, Tyrone Taylor, was found guilty on all counts except one for pimping.

Prosecutors alleged that the group used their record label as a front to coerce women into prostitution. One victim testified that she was only allowed to eat if she had sex with men for money.

The trial also revealed that Cash Out, with Smith’s help, allegedly tried to pressure a witness into staying silent. Jurors were shown a 2021 interrogation video of Smith, taken after her arrest at a physical therapy clinic. In the footage, she denies involvement, claiming she was there looking for a friend who missed probation.

Prosecutors also played jailhouse phone recordings where Cash Out allegedly instructed Smith to track down the witness. “I mean, y’all acting like I done kidnapped her,” Smith reportedly said during the interrogation.

Sentencing for Cash Out is scheduled for Monday, July 21.
