Donald Trump didn’t hold back his thoughts on the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, making it clear he’s all for it.
Following CBS’s July 17 announcement that the Colbert-hosted talk show will end after its 10th season in May 2026, Trump took to Truth Social to gloat. While the network cited “purely financial” reasons tied to a “challenging backdrop in late night,” Trump had a different take.
“I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” he wrote, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!”
He didn’t stop there, adding, “Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”
Meanwhile, CBS praised Colbert in their official statement: “We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television.”

Jimmy Kimmel didn’t take the news of The Late Show ending lightly. In response, he posted a blunt message on his Instagram Stories: “Love you Stephen. Fuck you and all your Sheldons [on] CBS.”
Colbert has long been a vocal critic of Donald Trump during his nightly monologues, leading some to speculate that the show’s cancellation may have had political undertones. Just this week, Colbert called out CBS’ parent company, Paramount, for quietly settling a $16 million lawsuit with Trump over claims that CBS News deceptively edited an interview with former VP Kamala Harris.
Meanwhile, President Trump made headlines for a different reason. The White House announced on Thursday, July 17, that he’s been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency—a vein condition that can cause bruising, swelling, and changes in the skin.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the concerns after viral photos of the president’s legs sparked speculation. “The president underwent a comprehensive examination, including diagnostic vascular studies,” she told reporters, according to CBS News. “Bilateral lower extremity venous Doppler ultrasounds were performed and confirmed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70.”
The condition occurs when veins in the legs struggle to send blood back up to the heart, leading to pooling and discomfort.
