Ray J recently sat down with Cam Newton and reflected on his infamous sex tape with Kim Kardashian, which was released nearly 20 years ago.
“That was probably the worst thing that’s ever happened to me, if you look from then to now,” he told Newton on his show. “It’s the worst thing that’s ever been put on my name. It’s the most disgusting, the most illegal, and the most distasteful when you have a daughter.”
Ray J and Princess Love welcomed their first child, a daughter, in 2018.
During the candid conversation, the singer and reality TV star hinted that he wants the Kardashian family to set the record straight for the sake of his child.
“Only anxiety I feel is, like, yo, it’s so simple. Just tell ni***s what happened, and I can walk away,” he said. “That’s all you gotta do. And I’m talking to the family. Just tell n***s what happened. I don’t want no money or nothing. Keep your money. Just tell n***s, man, so my daughter’s good.”
The controversy surrounding the tape has been reignited several times over the years. In the 2016 book Kardashian Dynasty, author Ian Halperin claimed the tape was “a complete set up to become famous,” allegedly orchestrated by Kim and her mother, Kris Jenner. According to the Daily Mail, Ray J later added fuel to the fire in 2017 when asked if Kim was “obsessed with fame,” cryptically responding, “I only did my part [in making her famous]. As a man, I tried to play my part in the situation. If you’re intelligent you can read between the lines.”
Without offering much context, Ray J also once called Kris “a real, true hustler.”
Speaking about the long-lasting impact of the tape, the 44-year-old described the Kardashians as “a family of fuckery” and even suggested that powerful people could be called in to “protect a certain billion dollar brand.”
“I’m in contracts with these motherfuckers. Like, I don’t supposed to say none of this,” Ray J revealed. “And I’m not in contracts for that. I’m in contracts for what I’m doing now. To shut the fuck up, and be quiet. Shut the fuck up. You know what it is. Here, be quiet. No, n***a, keep your money. And that’s where I’m at today.”
Ray J even joked with Newton during the conversation, asking when the interview would be released because he might need to go into hiding once it aired.
