Former Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden has reportedly entered rehab after allegedly assaulting his wife, Kate Bowman.
According to a restraining order obtained by TMZ, Bowman said the incident took place on July 21 after she was informed by a stranger about Madden’s alleged inappropriate communications with teenagers. She claimed she confronted him about “sexting teens about his rape fantasy and soliciting lewd images,” which led Madden to “go insane.” Bowman alleged he shoved her into a kitchen counter when she tried to access his phone.
She further stated that Madden chased her outside their home, pushed her into a gate, and, despite being barefoot and only wearing underwear, caught up with her on the street and attacked her two more times while she was checking his text messages.
Following the alleged assault, Bowman said she stayed with a friend. Madden later reached out, apologizing and stating he was checking himself into a sex-addiction rehab program. Bowman’s filing also includes handwritten letters and texts she sent Madden after the incident, which reportedly contained apologies and referenced the alleged rape fantasy messages.
“Please forgive me. This all felt like a private and fake harmless fantasy,” one message read. “It has no bearing on real life at all. I am so ashamed and so sorry.”
Bowman stated she is now fearful of Madden and has sought legal advice about her next steps. She is requesting a restraining order preventing him from coming within 100 yards of her. She also accused Madden of using money to control her but shared that she recently secured a job for financial independence. Bowman plans to remain in their home while Madden lives in a prepaid apartment, and she is seeking ownership of their dogs, Toast and Jam, along with continued financial support.
TMZ reports that a judge granted Bowman a temporary restraining order but has not required Madden to vacate the home.
This filing comes nearly five years after Madden’s arrest for alleged domestic violence. At the time, Maroon 5 released a statement to People magazine expressing disappointment: “We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news… For now, we are allowing all of the individuals involved the space to work things through.”
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office eventually dropped the case without filing charges, but Madden announced he was stepping away from Maroon 5 just two weeks later.
“I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence from Maroon 5 for the foreseeable future,” Madden told People. “During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best.”
