Kelly Clarkson’s Ex-Husband’s Official Cause of Death Confirmed

The official cause of death for Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, has been confirmed.

According to PEOPLE Magazine, the late talent manager — who worked with both Clarkson and Blake Shelton — died from melanoma, a type of skin cancer. Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis stated that the manner of death was natural causes.

“Brandon Blackstock passed away peacefully at his home in Butte, Montana, on August 7th under hospice care, surrounded by his family,” Hollis shared.

Blackstock died on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025. In a statement, a family representative said, “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

News of his passing came just a day after Clarkson revealed she was postponing her shows at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. “Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” she wrote on Instagram.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding,” she added.

Clarkson and Blackstock tied the knot in 2013, but she filed for divorce in 2020, with it being finalized two years later. They share two children, River and Remy, while Blackstock also had two children, Seth and Savannah, from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth.
