Mariah the Scientist never pictured herself dating a man with kids—until she went public with Young Thug.
The “Burning Blue” singer-songwriter stopped by Hot 97 on Monday (August 11) to chat with host Nessa Diab about her relationship with the “Money on Money” rapper. The two began dating in 2021 after Young Thug appeared on her Ry Ry World track “Walked In,” and Mariah has been vocal in her support for him throughout the YSL racketeering trial.
Around the 29-minute mark of the interview, Mariah confessed that dating a man with children was once a “dealbreaker” for her.
“And then I meet this guy, and I feel like he’s great—and he doesn’t have one kid, he has six kids,” she told Diab about Thugger.
“In the beginning it was harder. Definitely rougher, because they’re kids,” she explained. “You don’t want to be too present; it’s someone else’s child.”
Mariah shared that as her relationship with Young Thug has blossomed, her bond with his children has also “grown.” This past summer, she joined Thug, several of his kids, and Jamir’s mother, Kameme, to celebrate Jamir’s fifth grade graduation.
“I feel like we have great relationships,” Mariah said. “We talk on the phone all day. They’ll call me before they call him, and I’m like, ‘Call your daddy.’”
“But I love them though. They’re super fun, very playful, and they teach me so much,” she added. “I miss them—I want to hang out with them right now. I wonder what they’re doing. But yeah, they’re great.”
Mariah’s bond with Thug and his kids has even earned praise from Jamir’s mother, Kameme, who publicly thanked the singer last year for helping arrange phone calls between the rapper and his children while he was in jail.
Earlier in the chat, Mariah explained that she was “working” but “took too long” to meet up when Young Thug planned their first date—almost causing him to lose interest. Back in June, during GQ’s Couples Quiz, Thug claimed that his now-girlfriend actually stood him up.
