Chris Tucker made his way to Gary, Indiana, to honor what would have been Michael Jackson’s 67th birthday.
On Friday (August 29), the comedian and actor joined the opening festivities for Jackson’s weekend-long birthday celebration, which included the 300 Jackson Street Block Party. MJ’s mother, Katherine Jackson, along with his brothers Marlon and Jackie Jackson of the Jackson 5, were also in attendance.
At the ceremony, Tucker busted a few moves to Jackson’s 2001 hit “Rock My World”—a full circle moment nearly 25 years after he appeared in the music video.
During the celebration, the Rush Hour star also snapped photos with Marlon and Jackie and stopped by the Jackson 5 mural in downtown Gary.
“At the Jackson’s childhood home in Gary, Indiana!. With Jackie and Marlon Jackson!. On Michael’s Jackson birthday celebration day in Gary!!. Tucker wrote in his Instagram caption.
Tucker regularly pays tribute to his late friend on social media, especially around MJ’s birthday. Just last year, he and DC Young Fly broke into song and dance to “Rock With You” during a celebrity golf tournament in Atlanta.
In a statement, Gary Mayor Eddie Melton described the block party as a “tribute to the roots of greatness that started right here in our city.”
“We honor the Jacksons not just for their global impact, but for the pride and inspiration they continue to give the people of Gary. This weekend is a reminder that world-changing talent can rise from our very own neighborhoods,” he added.
The festival will also feature a special tribute on Saturday (August 30) in honor of late Jackson 5 member Tito Jackson, who passed away last September at the age of 70.
