Funk Flex shuts down claims he had DJ Enuff fired from Hot 97, saying, “I love him to death.”

Funkmaster Flex has spoken out on the rumors that he was behind DJ Enuff’s recent departure from Hot 97.

On Monday night, during his final 7 p.m. shift at the station, the legendary DJ (born Aston George Taylor Jr.) made it clear that he had nothing to do with Enuff’s firing.

“TMZ could never twist me up to flip on my guy, I love him to death,” Flex said on-air. “I would never have anything to do—not just my brother. I would have nothing to do with anyone being fired or no longer here. You know why? I’m too hot.”

Flex insisted he’s never been outshined by rival DJs, including those at Power 105.1, home of The Breakfast Club and DJ Clue, who air during the same hours.

“Why would I be worried about anybody in here? Why would I feel that anybody should not be here? I don’t believe in that. I don’t influence that. I don’t need to. I like to grind. Listen, he grinds too. Everybody grinds,” he added.

Flex also hinted that others in the industry had betrayed Enuff.
“The people who snaked you, man, was in that video on your goodbye. The people who snaked you were standing outside when you was with TMZ,” Flex said. “They were standing with you, my brother. You go back to that video and you really look at their faces.”

TMZ reported that Enuff was joined by his wife and fellow DJs—Drewski, E-Stylez, and Lady S—during his farewell interview with the outlet.

Flex didn’t hold back on praising Enuff’s legacy either, calling him a trailblazer in the New York club scene.
“He is the originator of putting the line at those Spanish clubs around the block. There would be no Spanish hip-hop parties without DJ Enuff,” Flex said. “He’s the originator of it. He’s the originator of doing two or three bookings a night, moving around, doing his thing. Somewhere between there and now that was no longer there for him.”

DJ Enuff (born Ephrem Lopez) was let go from Hot 97 on Thursday (Aug. 28) after nearly three decades at the station. He later told TMZ he “cried” after his exit and believed Flex was behind it.
“I can’t prove it, but in my heart that’s what I feel that happened,” Enuff said.

Starting Tuesday (Sept. 2), Funk Flex will take over the 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. slot at Hot 97.
