Freddie Gibbs had something to say after fans started comparing him to J. Cole when a soccer player resembling him went viral.
It all started when Premier League squad Newcastle United shared a silhouette photo of new signing Yoane Wissa to announce his arrival.
Because of his bald head and similar build, fans quickly joked that Gibbs was about to kick off a soccer career—just like J. Cole did when he joined the Basketball Africa League back in 2021.
“I feel you gang this like when Cole went to hoop right…Right?” one fan commented, sparking a direct reply from Gibbs.
“Hey man fuck yall with this soccer shit,” Gibbs fired back.
Back in 2021, J. Cole’s jump into professional sports was the real deal. He signed a short three-to-six game contract with the Basketball Africa League’s Rwanda Patriots B.B.C., logging just over 45 minutes across three pool games and racking up five points, three assists, and five rebounds.
Once his contract wrapped, Cole took to Instagram to thank his fans in Africa for the overwhelming support.
“So many thank you’s are due,” he wrote. “Thank you to @thebal and to @patriotsbbc for the opportunity. Thank you to my teammates, the coaches and staff for treating me like family. I learned so much in the few weeks we were together. Congrats on that win tonight and good luck next game.
