Funk Flex took a moment to salute Diddy during his final 7 p.m. to midnight Hot 97 show.
“This right here. Diddy, what’s going on, baby?” Flex said while spinning Craig Mack’s 1994 classic “Flava in Ya Ear.”
“I know you were talking about playing the Garden. I’ll come through,” he added, before returning to hype up Mack’s hit. “This was so crazy.”
“Flava in Ya Ear” was Mack’s breakout single from his debut album Project: Funk da World, dropped via Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. The track became a smash, topping the Hot Rap Songs chart, hitting No. 4 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and peaking at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album itself climbed to No. 21 on the Billboard 200 and No. 6 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Its star-studded remix featuring Busta Rhymes, Rampage, LL Cool J, and The Notorious B.I.G. only cemented its legacy.
Flex’s Garden shout-out nods to news from last month, when Diddy’s attorney Marc Agnifilo told CBS Mornings that the mogul plans to stage a comeback performance at Madison Square Garden once he’s out of prison.
Diddy, 55, has been incarcerated since September 2024. He was found guilty in July on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and was denied bail again in August while awaiting his Oct. 3 sentencing.
As for Flex, recent speculation about him leaving Hot 97 proved false—he’s simply shifting his show to a new 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. slot after Labor Day.
