Cardi B Reveals She Once Passed on Super Bowl Halftime Show but Promises She’ll ‘Eat That Up’ If Given Another Shot

In a new Billboard interview ahead of her long-awaited sophomore album Am I the Drama?, Cardi B admitted she once passed on a major opportunity.

Speaking with Carl Lamarre around the 19-minute mark, Cardi was asked if she could see herself hitting the Super Bowl Halftime Show stage.

“Of course, definitely,” she said. “And I’m really glad it’s… that — What year I got asked to do the Super Bowl? I’m not sure if it was 2019, 2018, and I denied. But I’m glad. I feel like soon. If I get to do it, I feel like I’m going to have more hits, and I feel like I’m going to be more experienced. And hey, I’mma eat that up.”

Cardi B’s debut album Invasion of Privacy dropped back in 2018, and after years of teasing, its highly anticipated follow-up is finally on the way. Set for release on September 19, the project was recorded over a six-year stretch that saw Cardi’s life change dramatically. In that time, she divorced Offset, became a mom of three, scored a massive hit with Megan Thee Stallion on “WAP,” and came out victorious in multiple lawsuits and legal battles.

Most recently, Cardi went viral for her antics during a trial tied to an alleged 2018 assault of a security guard. After beating the case, she leaned into the moment, putting up pre-orders for special “courtroom edition” physical copies of Am I the Drama? on her website.

In her wide-ranging Billboard interview, Cardi also touched on stepping into her role as a fashion icon, her growth since Invasion of Privacy, her unapologetic voice in politics, and what fans can look forward to when she hits the road to tour the new album.
