Montell Jordan Reveals His Cancer Has Returned and Spread

Montell Jordan has revealed that his cancer has returned, nearly a year after having his prostate removed.

The “This Is How We Do It” hitmaker opened up on the Today show on Sept. 3, sharing that recent scans showed the cancer has now spread to his lymph nodes.

“I always imagined I would be telling my prostate cancer story from the other side of prostate cancer because I had a radical prostatectomy surgery,” Jordan explained. “My prostate was removed. There were clear margins.”

He added, “Close to a year post-prostatectomy, I still need to go back and have additional treatments because it’s [been] detected that there is still cancer.”

To fight the cancer, Montell Jordan will undergo targeted radiation on his lymph nodes along with at-home blockers to slow its growth.

“It is a seven-and-a-half week interruption of life to make sure that I have a longer life,” Jordan shared.

He first learned about his cancer in early 2024 through a Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test. “I would go regularly to my doctor for screenings, and at that time — we’re talking over a decade ago — most prostate screenings were kind of taboo,” Jordan said on Today. “I would do that, and they were taking blood samples.”

Because of his consistent checkups, doctors were able to track his blood levels and detect the issue early. A biopsy later upgraded the diagnosis to stage 2, calling it aggressive.

“Early detection is the thing that allows me to have a choice to treat [my cancer] and live and to continue giving myself the best quality of life possible,” he added.

Jordan is documenting his journey in Sustain, a forthcoming documentary created in partnership with the nonprofit Zero Prostate Cancer, set for release next year.

“I’m trying to give a template for people that get diagnosed with this to … know they have options available to them,” he explained. “It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to shake your fist at God. It’s okay to navigate and do what you need to do, but doing nothing is not an option. I never knew there was such a thing as being a two-time cancer survivor, so that’s the journey that I’m on right now.”
