Danny Trejo is very much alive, despite a viral social media hoax that left fans convinced the Hollywood legend had died.
The scare began over the weekend when a memorial-style tribute post about Trejo started making the rounds on Instagram, eventually spreading across other platforms. Things intensified after actor John Leguizamo, who starred alongside Trejo in The Infiltrator, reposted the claim, leading many to believe it was true.
As the rumors gained traction, Trejo took matters into his own hands to reassure fans. “Thank you all for your concern, but I am very much alive. Someone is spreading fake news,” he clarified.
Trejo’s reps also shut down the rumor, confirming there was no truth to the claims and assuring fans that the Machete star is in great health. The false report hit harder given that Trejo had just spoken to TMZ about real loss in Hollywood, reflecting on his late friend and Heat co-star Val Kilmer.
“Val was one of the A-List actors in Hollywood, its top of the line,” Trejo shared. “The minute you walked on set, whether you were an A-List player or not, he immediately made you feel like, ‘Hey what’s up!’ He didn’t care whether you came out of Strasberg or [not]… You were there, you’re an actor, that means you’re part of the crew.”
He continued, “He immediately made you feel like there was no list. But Val, I can’t say that he was a problem. To directors, he was more of a perfectionist. To the cast, he was just a blast.”
