Sean “Diddy” Combs took the opportunity to share a message about hip-hop on Jay Electronica’s new project. The jailed music mogul appears on the opening track “Abracadabra” from Electronica’s surprise album A Written Testimony: Leaflets, released Friday through Roc Nation Distribution. The seven-track set also includes features from DRAM and Quentin Miller.

On the opener, Diddy hypes up Jay Electronica while stressing the importance of real artistry:
“…Leaflets, leaflets, they want me to talk some shit. Talk some shit about my n***a Jay Electronica,” he starts. “I hope he puts out this motherfucking album, he ain’t bullshitting, for real, man, ‘cause people gotta feel that real soul, you know what I’m saying?”
He adds, “Hip-hop is in a very, very dangerous place, you know. Give them that shit, you know what I’m saying? Reach their souls, lift up their vibration. That’s what God sent you here to do, you know? That’s why we wait so long. We wait for the good things, ‘cause good things come to those who wait…”
Jay Electronica’s latest project marks his first album in five years, dropping on September 19 to align with the New Orleans rapper’s 49th birthday. A Written Testimony: Leaflets is now streaming on Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, and other major platforms. The release follows the long-awaited arrival of his once-shelved album Act II: The Patents of Nobility (The Turn), which was finally made widely available on streaming services.
Meanwhile, Diddy — who opens the project — is facing serious legal troubles. On July 2, he was found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution during his federal sex trafficking trial. Denied bail, the 55-year-old mogul is expected to remain behind bars until his sentencing on October 3. His legal team is still pushing for either an acquittal or a new trial.
