Cardi B’s record-breaking new album Am I The Drama? is off to a massive start, and the first-week projections are finally in.
According to Hits Daily Double, the project is on track to clear over 100 million streams in its opening week. The outlet also estimates that Cardi’s long-awaited sophomore effort will push between 125,000 and 150,000 album-equivalent units, though it notes the forecast comes “with some caveats.”
Am I The Drama? serves as Cardi’s follow-up to her 2018 debut Invasion of Privacy. The LP was certified platinum by the RIAA just one day after release, thanks in part to the inclusion of her chart-topping hits “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion and “Up,” both of which went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
However, Billboard won’t count those two tracks toward her first-week numbers on the Billboard 200 since they were released well outside the album’s rollout window. Cardi herself addressed that decision in a lengthy post to fans, explaining why she still chose to include them on the album.
“‘WAP’ and ‘UP’ are two of my biggest songs, my fans have been asking me to put them on an album,” Cardi explained. “They deserve a home.”
She continued, “These two songs don’t even count for first week sales so what are yall even crying about???”
Alongside the album’s release, Cardi also set a Guinness World Record for the “Most deliveries in one hour.” Walmart teamed up with her to drop the album to fans in Dallas, TX via drones, with TMZ confirming the record was broken after 176 drone deliveries.
Am I The Drama? also boasts an all-star lineup of features, including Lizzo, Selena Gomez, Summer Walker, and more.
