Toni Braxton Set to Transform Her Biggest Hits Into Lifetime Original Movies

Toni Braxton is taking her music to the big screen—this time through Lifetime.

According to Deadline, the Grammy-winning legend will star in two new Lifetime movies inspired by some of her most unforgettable hits.

First up is He Wasn’t Man Enough, inspired by Toni Braxton’s 2000 smash hit. The film premieres November 22 at 8/7c as part of Lifetime’s “Love of a Lifetime” lineup.

Braxton stars as Mel Montgomery, a bestselling author blindsided when her boyfriend Richard (Thomas Cadrot, The Night Agent) betrays her. The drama intensifies when she discovers he’s engaged to her former college friend Monica (Essence Atkins, First Wives Club). With the help of her ride-or-die bestie Candy (Yvette Nicole Brown, Community), Mel and Monica set aside their past rivalry to unite against Richard’s deception.

Instead of focusing on revenge, the story highlights solidarity and sisterhood. For fans of the original track, the title is more than just a wink—it’s the heartbeat of the film. The single itself peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and held No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart for four weeks.

Braxton’s second film, Breathe Again, arrives in 2026 and reunites her with Atkins, alongside Emmy winner Cree Summer (A Different World, Rugrats). The film follows Jennifer (Braxton), Vanessa (Summer), and Evelyn (Atkins)—three women dumped on a reality dating show who find strength in each other. Their journey takes them from L.A. to Seattle as they rebuild careers, friendships, and self-worth: Jennifer returns to music, Vanessa revives her design business, and Evelyn channels her grief into joy.

Both movies are produced by Braxton with Tanya Lopez and Kenneth Crear for Lifetime, directed and executive produced by Stan Brooks. He Wasn’t Man Enough also comes with production support from Lighthouse Pictures and a script by Aireka Muse, Tara Knight, and Angela Nissel. Breathe Again is written by Nikita Hamilton and executive produced by Howard Braunstein.
