Big Daddy Kane Reflects on Madonna Inviting Him to Pose Nude for Her ‘Racy’ Book: ‘An Amazing Day’

Big Daddy Kane is still fondly recalling the “fun” he had posing for Madonna’s provocative 1992 book Sex.

The hip-hop trailblazer appeared on the Sept. 24 episode of Club Shay Shay, where host Shannon Sharpe brought up his role in the controversial project. Kane, alongside big names like Naomi Campbell, Vanilla Ice, and Isabella Rossellini, stripped down for the edgy coffee table release.

Around the four-minute mark of the interview, Kane remembered being on a promo run with Madonna and Color Me Badd at “upscale” hospitals when Madonna quoted his classic track “Ain’t No Half-Steppin’” to a group of kids. After he thanked her, Madonna extended the daring invitation—asking him to pose for “racy” and “nude photos” for her book.

“I’m like, ‘Shit, even better. Let’s do it,’” Kane told Sharpe, adding that he felt “honored” to be part of it.

“But let me tell you how real Madonna was, man,” Kane said, reflecting on the experience. “The day started off so much fun where I’m like, ‘OK, yeah, this the place to be. This is cool.’ When I got to the set, Madonna comes running across the room, butt-ass naked. ‘Kane, so glad you made it.’”

He went on to recall one particularly wild moment: “I was just standing outside in the middle of the street in between the divider, no clothes on, with my thumb out taking photos—but not one single car stopped. Can you believe that? F***ing Madonna, nobody stopped for me.”

Kane added with a laugh, “I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, this going to be an amazing day.’ She’s already on 10, wilding out. I knew it was going to be fun.”

When asked if today’s rappers could ever pose for Playgirl or an erotic book, Kane cracked a joke: “I think there’s rappers today that’s coming from doing that to become a rapper.”

Sex, which is now out of print, sold 1.5 million copies during its release, making it one of the fastest-selling coffee table books of all time. It dropped alongside Madonna’s fifth album, Erotica, which featured singles like “Deeper and Deeper” and “Fever.”
