Taylor Swift’s newly released album The Life of a Showgirl hit streaming platforms on Friday, and one song in particular—“Opalite”—has already set social media on fire. Fans are convinced the lyrics take a jab at Travis Kelce’s ex, Kayla Nicole.
Nicole, however, didn’t stay silent. She took to Instagram with a subtle but sharp response, making it clear she’s not playing into any comparisons — or competition.
The timing couldn’t have been more telling. Just hours after The Life of a Showgirl dropped, Us Weekly reports that Kayla Nicole shared photos from a Hollywood Confidential dinner in Los Angeles, dressed in a stunning brown silk halter gown and rocking a curly bob. Her caption carried a graceful message: “What an honor to share a table with some of the most iconic ‘girlfriends’ of all time,” she wrote.
She went on to thank the organizers for creating space for “visibility, sisterhood, and storytelling”—a statement that fans quickly saw as bigger than any celebrity feud.
Then came the Instagram Story. Nicole reposted a classic clip from America’s Next Top Model where Eva Marcille tells Tyra Banks, “I don’t compare myself to other girls. I’m Eva. I’m no comparison to anyone else.” Followers didn’t miss the message—it was a clear, confident clapback to the buzz surrounding “Opalite.”
Swift’s song only fueled the chatter. On the track, she sings: “You couldn’t understand it, why you felt alone / You were in it for real, she was in her phone / And you were just a pose.”
Fans instantly tied the lyrics to a resurfaced video of Travis Kelce asking Nicole to put her phone away during dinner, drawing their own conclusions about the connection.
Nicole and Kelce were together on and off for five years before splitting in 2022. Since then, Kelce’s romance with Taylor Swift has taken off quickly—ending in an engagement this past August.
Still, Nicole’s stance remains unshaken. She’s said before she’s not holding any grudges. On her podcast Pre-Game With Kayla Nicole, she shared, “If you’re gonna lose, I want to lose to the best team now. I want you to move on and go do your big one. Make me look good. Right?”
