Streamer Emiru Blasts TwitchCon Over Sexual Assault Incident, Claims Security “Let the Guy Walk Away”

Emiru took to X to speak out about the incident, writing: “Yesterday, the man who assaulted me was allowed to cross multiple barriers at TwitchCon and even in front of another creator’s meet and greet to grab me, touch my face, and try to kiss me. Thankfully, he didn’t succeed, but a lot of people have pointed out it could have been much worse!”

She continued, “I’m obviously shaken up by what happened — and it’s not the first time I’ve experienced something like this — but honestly, I’m more hurt and upset by how Twitch handled it during and after the fact.”

Emiru went on to explain that the only person who reacted in the viral clip was her own personal security. “The security in the clip who reacts is my own security (it’s true my favorite and usual security guard was banned for holding a stalker’s arm to bring him to police at a past TwitchCon),” she wrote.

“However, there were at least three or four other TwitchCon security staff in the area who didn’t react and just let the guy walk away — as you can see in the clip since they don’t even appear in the frame LOL.”

In response, Twitch issued a statement to Mashable, reaffirming its stance on attendee safety. “The safety and security of all those attending TwitchCon is our highest priority,” a spokesperson said. “The behavior displayed by the individual involved in this incident was completely unacceptable and deeply upsetting.”

“We immediately removed this individual from TwitchCon premises, and they are banned indefinitely from Twitch — including both online and in-person events,” the spokesperson added. “Twitch has zero tolerance for harassment.”

Emiru, however, disputed Twitch’s version of events, calling the statement “a blatant lie.” “In Twitch’s statement they said the guy was immediately caught and detained — I’m sorry, but that’s not true,” she wrote. “He was allowed to walk away from my meet and greet, and I didn’t hear he was caught until hours after the attack. It felt like that only happened because my manager pushed for it, not because TwitchCon staff thought it was serious.”

This recent assault marks the second major incident Emiru has faced with a supporter this year. Back in March, she was livestreaming with fellow streamers Cinna and Valkyrae when a man threatened to kill them on camera.

During their week-long marathon stream in Los Angeles, a man who identified himself as Russell appeared on stream and said, “I’ll kill you right now,” after Emiru refused to give him her contact information.

Cinna later addressed the terrifying moment in a follow-up stream, saying, “It sucks that a marathon meant to highlight women streamers ended up becoming one of the worst things that can happen to a female streamer. We’re just really thankful it didn’t end with one of us getting seriously hurt.”
