DDG Says the Music Scene Is ‘Messed Up,’ Believes Content Creation Is ‘Way More Lit’

DDG believes content creation is thriving more than hip-hop at the moment.

The rapper and Twitch streamer shared his thoughts on the current state of the music industry, saying creators are winning right now. “I think all music in general is kind of fucked up,” he admitted when asked about rap’s condition. “People’s attention is going towards content. I feel like content is more lit than music right now.”

According to DDG, platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok have become the main source of entertainment for many people. “I’ll be on TikTok at least an hour when I wake up,” he said. “I mean, I stream, though, so I’ll be looking at my clips and seeing what people fucked with and what was clipped and all that.”

Later in the same conversation on Sunday (Oct. 26), DDG revealed that streaming has been far more profitable for him than music. “For what I signed for, I made that in 30 days on Twitch,” he said, referring to his record deal with Epic Records. Though the exact figure of his contract remains unknown, his latest album moo moved 4,400 album-equivalent units in its first week.

“Streamers make more than rappers, a hundred percent,” he continued. “There’s too many ways to make money.” He also pushed back when Akademiks suggested that Kai Cenat, who DDG recently named “streamer of the year,” only streams for money. “Nobody can be bigger than them right now… I think it’s more so that,” DDG said, adding that Cenat is focused on building his legacy.

At one point, DDG even playfully asked Akademiks if he was on Ozempic, which Akademiks quickly denied.
