California judge grants Jay-Z’s motion to dismiss ongoing paternity case against him

Jay-Z has officially won a significant legal battle surrounding the long-running paternity allegations against him.

According to court documents, a California judge this week approved Jay-Z’s legal team’s motion to dismiss a complaint filed by Lillie Coley, who identified herself as the “godmother and legal guardian” of Rymir Satterthwaite. Satterthwaite had previously claimed that Jay-Z fathered him in the mid-1990s with his late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite.

“The court has read and considered the motion and concluded that it is suitable for decision without oral argument,” the 16-page order filed on Tuesday (Nov. 4) stated.

The dismissal also denied Coley’s request to amend her complaint, preventing her from refiling it and effectively ending the case. Coley had accused Jay-Z of deceit by concealment and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Jay-Z’s attorneys argued for dismissal by invoking California’s anti-SLAPP statute, which protects free speech and petition rights.

The court noted that any amendment to the complaint would be “futile,” leaving no room for further legal pursuit in this matter.

Coley initially filed a notice of appeal on Wednesday but withdrew it the following day, opting instead to pursue a motion for reconsideration.

Meanwhile, Satterthwaite remains listed as the plaintiff in a separate, related California case, though a notice of withdrawal was filed back in July.

Jay-Z has consistently denied the allegations, with his legal team previously labeling the claims as part of “decades-long harassment.” Just last month, a judge rejected a restraining order request tied to Coley’s complaint against the Roc Nation founder.
