The Los Angeles Police Department has reportedly begun looking into D4vd as a possible suspect in the killing of Celeste Rivas.
On Tuesday (November 18), TMZ reported that sources connected to the case say the LAPD is “looking at D4vd as a suspect” in the homicide.
No charges have been filed in Rivas’ death, and the medical examiner has not yet determined her exact cause of death. Despite this development, investigators are still far from making an arrest.
“I can neither confirm nor deny the claims in that TMZ report. It remains an ongoing investigation by LAPD detectives,” Captain Mike Bland of the LAPD Media Relations division told Complex.
Police are also reviewing the singer’s late-night trip from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara County earlier this year, where he reportedly stayed for several hours before returning.
Back in early September, the remains of 15-year-old Rivas were discovered in the trunk of a Tesla belonging to D4vd — whose real name is David Burke — at a Hollywood impound lot. The car had been abandoned on a street near his former Hollywood Hills rental home before being towed.
Rivas’ body was found dismembered and decomposing in a plastic bag. At the time of the discovery, D4vd was on the U.S. leg of his tour, which was later canceled.
Private investigator Steve Fischer, hired by the owner of the home where D4vd previously lived, has shared small updates on what he’s uncovered over the past month. He noted the presence of “heavy-duty tools” he found “unusual” inside the home, and pointed out that the Tesla had been moved to several different parking spots around the neighborhood before finally being left again on July 29, right as D4vd kicked off his tour.
During an appearance on Law&Crime Sidebar with Jesse Weber earlier this month, Fischer suggested there may have been “plans” to dispose of Rivas’ remains, and speculated that the teen could have suffered a drug overdose. He also hinted that a “sadistic” choice might have been made to avoid “exposing” a potential relationship between Rivas and the 20-year-old artist.
