Ebro Darden has reacted to the announcement that The Kid Mero will be stepping into Hot 97’s morning slot, previously held by Ebro in the Morning, which officially wrapped up last month after nearly 13 years on the air.
“Shout to @TheKidMero …. This is great!” Darden wrote in a post on X on Monday (Jan. 12).
Mero quickly returned the love, replying soon after with, “LETS GET IT!!” alongside prayer hand emojis.
While he didn’t directly reference Ebro in the Morning in his press release, The Kid Mero did speak on the importance of stepping into Hot 97’s morning slot and what it means to him to uphold its legacy.
“Hot 97 is the station—it’s been the voice of NYC hip-hop and culture for decades,” Mero said. “I grew up listening to Hot 97, so to get the morning slot here isn’t just a job—it’s a responsibility to continue that legacy while bringing it into this next era of media.”
Darden first confirmed that Ebro in the Morning had ended last month with a brief post on X that read, “It’s done. More to come.”
His co-host, Peter Rosenberg, later reflected on the experience with appreciation, looking back on his time with the show.
“I lived out a childhood dream and it was amazing,” Rosenberg wrote.
Darden would go on to suggest that his outspoken progressive stance and criticism of Israel’s prime minister played a role in the show’s cancellation.
“They need my shit talking, anti-Netanyahu, anti-government, progressive shit out of the way, bro,” he said. “They need me out of the way.”
In a separate development, Drake reportedly reached out to Darden via DM, allegedly writing, “Die slower pussy.” In another message, the rapper allegedly added, “We got some shit for u.”
