Chris Brown is encouraging fans to “be true” to themselves—while seemingly brushing past the latest headlines surrounding the dismissal of his defamation lawsuit.
On Tuesday (Jan. 13), reports confirmed that the singer’s $500 million defamation case against Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample Entertainment over the 2024 Investigation Discovery docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence had been thrown out.
The lawsuit, filed last January, accused the companies behind the project of “promoting and publishing false information in the pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads, and dollars.” The docuseries revisited domestic abuse allegations involving the two-time Grammy winner, including his 2009 assault of pop star Rihanna.
One allegation highlighted in the Investigation Discovery special involved a woman who claimed Brown sexually assaulted her aboard a yacht owned by Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2020—an accusation Brown denied.
Judge Colin Leis dismissed Brown’s petition, stating that the 2020 allegation, as presented in the docuseries, amounted to a “fair and true” account of the woman’s statements, along with the relevant judicial records and proceedings.
In an Instagram Story shared on Wednesday, Brown seemingly addressed the dismissal with a series of motivational—but cryptic—messages aimed at his followers.
“Be true to yourself,” the singer wrote. “Write your own story. Let people learn and be inspired. Don’t listen to the misinformed. Show them your glow.”

Brown continued, “Show them your heart. Show no weakness. Live life and take care of life. Never stop and never let them stop you on your journey to greatness.”
Despite the abuse allegations that have followed him throughout his career, Brown’s 2025 Breezy Bowl XX tour reportedly pulled in more than $295 million in ticket sales, according to Billboard.
