Chris Redd has put an end to rumors linking his former Saturday Night Live castmate Kenan Thompson to a 2022 assault.
Speaking with TMZ in New York City on Wednesday (January 14), the 40-year-old was asked whether the attack — which happened outside the Comedy Store in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village — was a “targeted hit.”
“I guess I didn’t see it that way at the time when I was reporting this. But, no, Keenan did not hit me,” Redd said around the 2:48 mark in the video shared below. “People took it like Keenan hit me. He didn’t hit me. No.”
He continued by making it clear the situation has been settled on his end. “I found out who did it. It is what it is, you know? That’s it.”
An NYPD source told TMZ that no arrests have been made so far and the investigation is still ongoing.
Redd and Thompson were once close friends and castmates on SNL from 2017 to 2022, and they also portrayed brothers on the 2021 sitcom Kenan.
Things reportedly became strained after Redd and Thompson’s ex-wife, Christina Evangeline, developed a romantic relationship while she was supporting him through a difficult period involving substance abuse.
In a video he posted to Instagram last week, Redd praised Evangeline, calling her “the only one to call me on my shit, help me with my shit.”
“I can’t go back and forth with every mean message but the homewrecker narrative just isn’t true,” he added in the comments under the post. “Regardless of what you may feel about the situation, cheating was never the case. They weren’t together and had not been for years when we started. Not taking away anything I said but felt this needed some clarification.”
