Trey Songz Files Lawsuit Against Kansas City Police Following His Arrest at 2021 Chiefs Playoff Game

Trey Songz has filed a lawsuit against the Kansas City Police Department over the events that led to his arrest during the 2021 AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills.

According to the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, the singer claims he was “physically assaulted, wrongfully arrested, handcuffed and detained” after security personnel and police officers approached his seating area at the stadium. Songz alleges that authorities failed to protect him from “unruly, aggressive and intoxicated attendees” who were harassing and threatening him.

At the time of the incident, witnesses told TMZ that Songz had been heckled by fans seated a few rows behind him before an officer arrived and allegedly “went after him” without warning.

Songz was initially charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer, though all charges were later dropped.

In the lawsuit, Songz claims he suffered physical injuries, emotional distress, harm to his professional reputation, and financial losses as a result of the arrest. He is seeking unspecified damages.

Separately, Songz was arrested last month in New York City for allegedly damaging more than $1,500 worth of property and equipment at a hookah lounge. Authorities later discovered he was also wanted in connection with another incident that same night at a Times Square nightclub, where he is accused of punching an employee who told him the venue was closing and he needed to leave.

His attorney, Mitchell Schuster, said his client, who pleaded not guilty to assault, harassment, and criminal mischief, is “cooperating fully and looks forward to the facts coming to light.”
