DeVon Franklin says he turned to dating apps almost immediately after his 2022 divorce from actress Meagan Good.
Ahead of the Thursday (Jan. 29) release of his new Audible original Be True: My Journey from Breakdown to Breakthrough, the producer and motivational speaker shared a clip from a live performance on his TikTok Stories. In the video, he reflected on the end of his marriage to Good.
The former couple were married for ten years before going their separate ways. Franklin went on to marry fitness coach Maria Castillo last August, while Good tied the knot earlier that year with actor Jonathan Majors.
In the clip, Franklin spoke about the “dilemma” he faced while walking away from his first marriage, admitting he was deeply “struggling” with the choice.
“Even thinking of the question was terrifying,” Franklin told the audience. “Even having the thought put me in a state of disbelief and absolute fear. I never thought that I would contemplate it. Better yet, I never thought that I would even do it. But now I’m at the edge of considering it.”
Franklin added that going through with the divorce made him feel like a “failure” and described it as a “sacrifice and death” of the version of himself that his marriage-focused audience had grown to admire. In 2015, he and Good released a relationship and self-help book, The Wait, which centered on choosing to abstain from sex until marriage.
He later joked about turning to dating apps once the divorce was finalized, saying he felt like his swipe needed divine approval.
“I wasn’t looking for marriage. I was just looking to explore and have a good time and enjoy myself,” Franklin said.
Elsewhere, Franklin shared a story about being “ghostfished”—a mix of getting ghosted and catfished—after talking to a woman on Snapchat for nearly five months without ever meeting her in person.
He also recalled falling for a woman after seeing a thirst trap photo, only to later take issue with her continuing to post similar content once they started dating. Franklin said it was a “red flag” that she kept sharing suggestive images.
“I just found it very interesting that I’m out here decluttering my DMs like a good boy, per her request, and meanwhile she’s got the storefront looking like buy-one, slide in free,” he said.
During an appearance on Cam Newton’s Funky Friday podcast last October, Franklin also revealed that he spent a year living in a Los Angeles hotel following his divorce.
