Martin Lawrence Says His ‘Heart Is Overflowing’ After Finding Out He’s About to Become a Grandfather

Martin Lawrence recently opened up about the joy of becoming a grandfather in a heartfelt Instagram post.

On Tuesday (February 2), the comedian’s eldest daughter, Jasmin, 30, and her husband, Eric Murphy, 36 — the oldest son of Eddie Murphy — revealed they are expecting their first child. The pair tied the knot last May in a private ceremony after their Life costars repeatedly joked about who would end up footing the wedding bill.

In his post, Lawrence described the news as a “blessing,” sharing how meaningful it was to start his day learning he would soon be a first-time grandfather. While Lawrence is also father to two younger daughters, Murphy already has ten children and is a grandfather himself, with his grandkids appearing in his Netflix documentary Being Eddie.

“My heart is overflowing with love and gratitude after the announcement of my first grandchild!” Lawrence wrote alongside a carousel of maternity photos of the Murphys. “Watching @jasmin_lawrence and @ericmurphy777 step into parenthood means everything to me.”

He wrapped things up by writing, “Family is everything—and this moment is nothing less than a blessing from God. Welcome to the next generation!”

In a joint Instagram post shared on Monday, the Murphys described the pregnancy as “the greatest gift.”

While Lawrence and Murphy have worked together over the years and are set to release a sequel to Blue Streak, Jasmin previously told InTouch Weekly that it was her uncle who first introduced her to the man who would become her husband.

“It wasn’t even our dads, and they’ve done two movies together, they’re friends,” she told the outlet. “We became really good friends because we bonded on a lot of things, and over time, it just, you know, became more.”
