Kelly Rowland is setting the record straight — and she wants people to know that being kind doesn’t mean she won’t stand her ground.
While speaking on ABC News’ All Access with Linsey Davis, the Grammy-winning singer was asked about the biggest misconception people have about her. Her response challenged the squeaky-clean image many tend to attach to her name.
“There’s this idea that I’m just nice and that I won’t respond,” Rowland said. “That’s not true.” And she made sure to drive the point home. “Don’t play with me or my family,” she added. “My sisters, my friends—I’m gonna get you.”
Her words also cast new light on a moment that grabbed headlines last year. In May 2024, Rowland was caught in a tense exchange with staff while walking the red carpet at the Marcello Mio premiere in Cannes. Video of the interaction quickly made the rounds, with plenty of speculation about what really happened.
A few days later at the amfAR Gala, she briefly addressed the situation. Without diving into specifics, she stood by her reaction. “We both know what happened,” she said. “I set a boundary, and I stand on that.”
Rowland also suggested there was a deeper issue at play, pointing out that others didn’t receive the same treatment. “There were women there who didn’t look like me who weren’t approached like that,” she explained. “I wasn’t going to move just because someone told me to.”
Outside of the red carpet buzz, Rowland has been focused on promoting her newest film, Relationship Goals, which premiered on Prime Video on February 4. The romantic comedy stars her alongside Method Man and adds to her growing list of acting credits.
While making the press rounds, she also shared a funny behind-the-scenes story from her Destiny’s Child days. Reflecting on the group’s “Survivor” video shoot, Rowland recalled filming a dramatic scene with a helicopter flying low overhead.
Things didn’t go exactly as planned.
“The wind picked up, and next thing I knew, my wig was gone,” she said with a laugh. “It just flew down the beach.” The wig was never found. “Somebody definitely took it,” she joked.
