IShowSpeed is finally explaining why his almost-guaranteed meetup with Michael Jordan never went down.
Speaking on Yahoo Sports Daily, the streamer shared that Giannis Antetokounmpo’s offer to connect him with the basketball legend ultimately didn’t work out.
“Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. That didn’t happen. I was on tour, and it was like a risk of, like, I would have to pause my tour for five days. And I would just mess up too many logistics and it just would have been, like it just would have been a hassle just to clean it up. But there’s always another try,” Speed said.
“There’s always another chance,” he added confidently. “I’m going to meet Michael Jordan one day. Don’t worry. I’m going to meet him. Even though he’s hard to get, but I’m gonna meet him.”
The opportunity first came up last July when Antetokounmpo invited Speed to meet Jordan — with one funny condition: no barking. Speed had joined the NBA star on his European vacation, livestreaming their dinner together.
While they were eating, Antetokounmpo casually mentioned that Jordan was set to visit him the next day, catching Speed completely off guard.
“I want to meet Jordan one day,” Speed replied.
“When do you leave?” Antetokounmpo asked, though Speed said he couldn’t “disclose” that information. “If you’re here tomorrow, come with me.”
Before wrapping up the invite, Antetokounmpo jokingly warned him, “Don’t come to Jordan barking and shit. Don’t come to MJ and start barking. He’s going to choke you. He’s going to choke your ass.”
