Jason Derulo’s Falling Down the Stairs Meme Makes a Comeback at the 2026 Oscars Over Timothée Chalamet

The meme once widely believed to show Jason DeRulo took center stage again during this year’s Oscars.

Although the pop star never actually tumbled down a staircase in public, many people spent years convinced that DeRulo was the man seen landing headfirst in the viral photo. However, as Just Jared notes, the person in the image was actually an unidentified man who crashed the 2011 Cannes Film Festival to pull off a stunt before security quickly detained him.

The photo started making the rounds again on Sunday night because Timothée Chalamet became the target of heavy trolling during the 98th Academy Awards. The jokes stemmed from a controversial comment he made last month about ballet and opera.

“I don’t want to be working in ballet or opera, or things where it’s like, ‘Hey, keep this thing alive, even though, like, no one cares about this anymore,’” Chalamet said during Variety and CNN’s town hall for Interstellar. “All respect to all the ballet and opera people out there. I just lost 14 cents in viewership. I just took shots for no reason.”

Making things even funnier, the actor showed up to the Oscars in a white suit, which may have convinced some people that he was actually the person in the viral meme.

During the ceremony, Timothée Chalamet also caught a few jabs, including one from host Conan O’Brien in his opening monologue. “Security is extremely tight tonight,” the comedian joked. “I’m told there’s concern about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities. They’re just mad you left out jazz.”
